The Institute of Puerto Rican Culture and Piano Móvil present the eminent pianist Daniela Santos in the La Ruta Ana Otero concert series. Celebrating her history and contributions, as well as that of other great Puerto Rican women in music. These concerts will be performed by pianist Daniela Santos, accompanied by Yaritza Zayas, Estefanía Pizzi, Rocío del Mar Jirau, Jayson Jordan and Ernesto Busigó. They will perform a varied program of Puerto Rican works from 1870 to the present day, some of which will be performed for the first time.

Specifically there will be 4 concerts, on the days:

Saturday August 24, 2024 | 6:00 PM – Museum of Puerto Rican Music, Ponce

Saturday September 21, 2024 | 6:00 PM – Porta Coeli Museum, San Germán

Thursday October 17, 2024 | 6:00 PM – UPR Amphitheater Mayagüez Campus

Friday, November 22, 2024 | 6:00 PM – Antonia Sáez Cultural Center in Humacao

The great Ana Otero Hernández was the first Puerto Rican woman to be an orchestra conductor, composer and an internationally recognized pianist. “Ana Otero Hernández was barely four years old when her father, the renowned music teacher Ignacio Otero, started her learning the piano. As a teenager, having become a competent pianist, she alternated her regular academic degrees with her performance as an instructor of beginner students at the academy that her father had established in 1860. Later, without abandoning her work as a teacher, she formalized her activity as a concert pianist, becoming in frequent attraction in cultural and social events. “She studied in Spain, France and had a prolific career as a concert performer.” (National Foundation for Popular Culture)

Puerto Rican pianist Daniela Santos characterized by her versatility and notable performance in a variety of musical genres. She has collaborated with the Puerto Rico Symphony Orchestra, the Puerto Rico Philharmonic Orchestra, Danny Rivera and Nydia Caro. She has performed at the New Orleans Jazz Fest with Emplegoste, Baja Beach Fest with Chencho Corleone and the Chicago Summer Dance with Orquesta El Macabeo. She has also performed in concerts in Berlin, Argentina, Prague and New York. In 2018, she published her first solo piano album, Piano Móvil, and later several singles. She is a piano professor at the Inter-American University of Puerto Rico.
