BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE

Brenda Hopkins Miranda is a pianist, composer, improviser and educator born in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The artist is known for her eclectic sound, her innovative way of mixing different multicultural influences and her great expressive capacity as a composer and improviser. He has offered concerts in Puerto Rico, the Caribbean, the United States, Central America, South America and Spain.

Throughout her career she has worked alongside artists such as Draco Rosa, Ricardo Montaner, Ednita Nazario, Glenn Monroig, Lucecita Benítez, Yolandita Monge, Humberto Ramírez, Bernie Williams, Bob Moses, Puya, Tito Auger, Fofé, Henry Cole and many others . She participated as a guest artist in the concert “Soy Yo” by Kany García presented at the Coliseum of Puerto Rico and broadcast on HBO Latino. She was the keyboardist for the television program “Marcano el Show” for several years in which she played with guest artists such as Tito Puente, Cerati, Sheila E, Dave Valentín and others. During her stay in Granada, Spain she was the only foreigner who worked in the flamenco show Raíz y Duende. She has recorded and produced 7 albums Boricua a Bordo (1998), Bohemia (1999), Memories of Granada (2009), Simple (2012), Aeropiano (2014), Puentes (2017) and Vivir (2024), all of which have been praised by critics both local and international. She has created and recorded music for several plays, films, short films and documentaries. She obtained a bachelor's degree magna cum laude in Classical Piano from the Puerto Rico Conservatory of Music and a master's degree in Contemporary Improvisation with honors from the New England Conservatory. Hopkins Miranda also completed doctoral studies in musicology at the University of Granada, Spain. In the past she directed the Music Program of the Institute of Puerto Rican Culture. She was a professor at the Puerto Rico Conservatory of Music. She is currently a full-time professor in the Popular Music Program at the Inter-American University of Puerto Rico Metropolitan Campus. As an educator she is passionate about developing creativity and originality in her students. For his educational ideas she received the 2014 Gilles Boulet award and medal from the Inter-American Higher Education Organization.
