«From Son to Flamenco: The interactive class» is an interactive workshop taught by Ana del Rocío and aimed at the general public. It is focused on the history and cultural connections between Caribbean son and Spanish flamenco. Through styles such as Cuban son, Puerto Rican dance and flamenco, participants will explore the mutual influence between the music of the Caribbean and Spain. The workshop includes live performances by guitarists and dancers, collaborators, dance lessons, and a 25-minute documentary titled “Del Son al Flamenco,” with interviews with experts. This educational program seeks to preserve and appreciate our musical heritage and promote intercultural understanding.
Ana del Rocío, known as La Voz Flamenca de Puerto Rico, is an outstanding multi-genre singer with more than 20 years of career. She studied music at the University of Puerto Rico, where she was part of the Lyric Theater. She has developed a successful professional career collaborating with renowned flamenco artists and groups in both Puerto Rico and Spain, including Nydia Caro, Brenda Hopkins, Yaire, Alejandro Granados, José Luis de La Paz, Raúl Ortega, Nano Cabrera, Hilda Ramos, Adlan Cruz and José Negroni, among many others. She recently participated in the play “Versos de Martí”, produced by Óscar Gómez, and has produced various cultural shows in Puerto Rico.
