Circus Maximus is a progressive metal band from Oslo, Norway, formed in 2000 by Michael Eriksen (vocals), Mats Haugen (guitar), Truls Haugen (drums), Espen Storø (keyboards) and Glen Cato Møllen (bass). Initially a cover band, they gained recognition for their interpretations of Dream Theater and Symphony X songs before creating their own music, blending melodies with heavy riffs and complex time signatures.
Their debut album, The 1st Chapter, released in 2005, received rave reviews. After Espen Storø left the band at the end of 2005, Lasse Finbråten joined as the new keyboardist. Their second album, Isolate, came out in 2007, followed by a European tour with Symphony X in 2008. Their third album, Nine, was released in 2012, notable for its melodic and dynamic sound.
